Before creating his full-size sculptures in\u00a0tribute to the victims of last year\u2019s mass
shooting at Thousand Oaks\u2019 Borderline\u00a0Bar & Grill, Ali Alinejad perfected his

The grieving process continues for the 12 people who\u00a0lost their lives in the mass shooting<\/a> at the Borderline\u00a0Bar & Grill<\/a> in Thousand Oaks on November 7, 2018.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere was so much emotion and so much grief in this\u00a0community after this happened, people didn\u2019t have a\u00a0place to go,\u201d says Thousand Oaks\u2013based sculptor Ali\u00a0Alinejad. \u201cCreating that place is what inspired me,\u201d he\u00a0says of the ceramic memorials he sculpted to honor\u00a0each of the victims.<\/p>\n

With the support of the community, Alinejad built an\u00a08- to 12-foot totem for each victim, stacking the letters\u00a0of their first names, which he sculpted from clay, and\u00a0inscribing special memories on the back. The colorful,\u00a0joyful sculptures are currently displayed throughout\u00a0Alinejad\u2019s neighborhood, which is also home to his\u00a0business, Clay Studio + Gallery (claystudioandgallery.com<\/a>). He hopes to find a permanent home for the\u00a0sculptures and to create a memorial with benches\u00a0that can be used as a site for contemplation.<\/p>\n
