Falling down stairs, crashing motorcycles, and\u00a0taking death-defying leaps off the sides of cliffs\u00a0are all in a day\u2019s work for Levi Gilbert<\/a>, a 2017 Santa\u00a0Barbara High School<\/a> graduate who got his first\u00a0Hollywood stunt job as soon as he turned 18 and\u00a0was legally allowed to perform. This might seem like\u00a0a crazy career choice to some, but stunt performing\u00a0is in Gilbert\u2019s blood. His grandfather Mickey\u00a0Gilbert<\/a>\u2019s career dates back to the 1969 classic Butch\u00a0Cassidy and the Sundance Kid<\/em>, and his father, Lance\u00a0Gilbert<\/a>, was Mel Gibson\u2019s personal stuntman.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got started doing stunt work with the guidance\u00a0of my dad,\u201d says the 20-year-old Gilbert, who\u00a0has already appeared in TV series such as 9-1-1,\u00a013 Reasons Why, Ballers, Daybreak, Silicon Valley<\/em>, and\u00a0Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.<\/em>, as well as the upcoming Ford v\u00a0Ferrari<\/em> <\/a>film, which is generating Oscar buzz. \u201cHe has\u00a0always helped me by giving me every opportunity to\u00a0learn something new and expand my skill sets.<\/p>\n

\u201cDirectors know exactly what they want from\u00a0the stunt performers, but it\u2019s up to you to make it\u00a0happen safely,\u201d says the youngest of the Gilbert\u00a0family stunt artists. \u201cThe most dangerous stunts I\u00a0have done so far in my career would probably be\u00a0stair falls.\u201d He starred as a young naval lieutenant\u00a0who fell to a dramatic death in an NCIS: New\u00a0Orleans<\/em> episode this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cDifficulty and danger\u00a0often go hand in hand,\u201d he says. \u201cBut for me the\u00a0hardest stunt isn\u2019t a stunt at all\u2014it\u2019s acting\u2014which is something I am working on and trying to\u00a0understand the art of.\u201d<\/p>\n
