September 2019 805 Living Magazine Story on Funk Zone Farm.<\/p><\/div>\n

Urban agriculture is having a field day at Funk Zone Farm<\/a> (Instagram:\u00a0@funkzonefarm) in Santa Barbara, which opens its farm stand on the\u00a0first and third Saturdays of each month in the Funk Zone.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe response\u00a0has been nothing short of heartwarming,\u201d says Carter Hallman<\/a>, who\u00a0runs the farm with Sami Weiss. The couple share a background deeply\u00a0rooted in food and wine and a \u201cpassion for quality grown food and how\u00a0food affects our environment, health, and culture,\u201d says Hallman.<\/p>\n

Created on unused land surrounding the Funk Zone\u2019s Green House\u00a0Studios<\/a> artists\u2019 workspace, the farm\u2014which produces a wide variety\u00a0of veggies, fruits, and flowers\u2014comprises 30 raised beds and a small\u00a0greenhouse and involves 50 tons of soil and 30 tons of compost.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are hoping to influence and educate more people on what local\u00a0really means on the Central Coast, how good farming affects flavors\u00a0and nutrients in crops, and how good farming greatly affects our\u00a0environment,\u201d says Hallman.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe biggest response is how joyful people look when they leave the\u00a0farm. They share how we\u2019ve inspired them to start their own backyard\u00a0gardens [and] how they come back week after week to watch the crops\u00a0grow, creating a connection and a newfound appreciation for what\u00a0they\u2019re eating.\u201d \u00a0\u2014Leslie Dinaberg<\/a><\/p>\n
