Several days each week, groups of volunteers prepare dozens of arrangements using donated flowers and make deliveries to hospitals, hospices, cancer centers and personal residences. In addition to abundant bouquets, flower recipients enjoy fresh-baked cookies (we even got samples made by volunteer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.merrylbrownevents.com\/pdf\/MontecitoJournal_20120524.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Robin Himovitz<\/a>, &#8220;the cookie lady&#8221;), fine chocolates from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.chococalibressan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chocolats du CaliBressan<\/a> (whose lovely owner was at our table) and handmade cards from school-age artists.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\">\u201cFlower Empower is an invaluable program to our community,\u201d says Dream Foundation\u2019s Chief Executive Officer, <a href=\"http:\/\/sbseasons.com\/2017\/02\/dream-foundation-partners-with-u-s-dept-of-veterans\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kisa Heyer<\/a>. \u201cIt reminds us that even the smallest gestures can make a lasting impression. We would love to see the program grow beyond Santa Barbara and bring happiness to others.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_88562\" style=\"width: 710px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-88562\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-88562\" src=\"http:\/\/sbseasons.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/KellySwedaPhotography.FE_expedited-5454.jpg\" alt=\"Amanda &amp; Justin Klentner (Klentner Ranch), Lynette Hall (Flower Empower Committee), Kisa Heyer (Dream Foundation CEO), photo by Kelly Sweda Photography.\" width=\"700\" height=\"467\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-88562\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Amanda &amp; Justin Klentner (Klentner Ranch), Lynette Hall (Flower Empower Committee), Kisa Heyer (Dream Foundation CEO), photo by Kelly Sweda Photography.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p4\">Flower Empower receives no federal or state funding and relies solely on corporate and individual contributions and grants<span class=\"s5\">, so this luncheon was an important contributor to the cause.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p4\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.keyt.com\/meet-the-team\/alan-rose\/64655989\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">KEYT Channel 3\u2019s Alan Rose<\/a>\u2014a longtime Flower Empower program supporter and volunteer\u2014served as MC, alongside his\u00a0KEYT colleague and fellow Flower Empower volunteer <a href=\"http:\/\/www.keyt.com\/meet-the-team\/alys-martinez\/63416140\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Alys Martinez<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/gazettereview.com \u203a Entertainment\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Andrew Firestone<\/a>\u00a0led a short but entertaining and profitable live auction that included a private wine experience at Jaffurs Wine Cellars as well as a tropical getaway at the Sheraton Waikiki Resort and a visit to the set of CBS\u2019 TV\u00a0show, <em>Hawaii Five-0.<\/em><\/p>\n<p class=\"p5\">Dream Foundation\u2019s CEO\u00a0Kisa Heyer and Flower Empower program coordinator, Valerie Banks honored and awarded the 2017 Flower Empower program sponsors: Laurel Barrack, Diane &amp; Tim Brown, Kate &amp; Arthur Coppola, Hollye &amp; Jeff Jacobs, Nissrin Mahmoud &amp; Bob Fuladi and Shelley &amp; Paul Schulte, whose donations will help fund the program this year. Also acknowledged were Ed Van Wingerden, Grower of the Year and Steven Shulem and Sheri Parker, Volunteers of the Year.
