The Santa Barbara Blues Society<\/a>, the oldest existing U.S. blues society, founded in March 1977, presents award\u00a0<\/sup><\/span>winning\u00a0Guitar Shorty<\/a><\/span>\u00a0and his band at the Carrillo Recreation Center\u00a0(100 E. Carrillo St.) on Saturday, November 14.<\/p>\n

David Kearney, a.ka. Guitar Shorty, was born in Texas and raised in Florida.\u00a0 His early influences included\u00a0B.B. King,\u00a0John Lee Hooker and\u00a0Guitar Slim. \u00a0 A valued musician since his teens, known since then as Guitar Shorty, he was lead guitarist in the bands of musical giants\u00a0Sam Cooke\u00a0and\u00a0Ray Charles.\u00a0Shorty has lived in Los Angeles for more than 40 years and led his own band for more than 30.\u00a0 Nominated for multiple Blues Music Awards by the Blues Foundation, he has won two for\u00a0Best Blues Album of the Year.\u00a0\u00a0The Chicago Reader<\/span><\/em>\u00a0called him “among the highest-energy blues entertainers on the scene.”<\/p>\n
