Courtesy photo.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><strong>A spirited toast to all things alcoholic! by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesliedinaberg.com\/\">Leslie Dinaberg<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a fun challenge for home bartenders. Local amateur cocktail artists are invited to enter the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wherevent.com\/detail\/Santa-Barbara-Fermentation-Screamin-Pickle-Fermented-Cocktail-Competition\" target=\"_blank\">Screamin\u2019 Pickle Fermented Cocktail Competition<\/a>. Co-sponsored by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/cutlersartisan.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Cutler\u2019s Artisan Spirits<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodlioncocktails.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Good Lion<\/a>\u00a0 and the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sbfermentationfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Santa Barbara Fermentation Festival<\/a>, contestants\u00a0must sign up by Friday, September 4.<\/p>\n<p>The competition will\u00a0be held at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodlioncocktails.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Good Lion<\/a> on Tuesday, September 8.<\/p>\n<p>The contest\u00a0encourages participants to craft innovative cocktails featuring Cutler\u2019s Artisan Spirits, paired with traditionally fermented mixers such as shrubs, raw apple cider vinegar, kombucha, beet kvass, ginger soda, kimchi, sauerkraut juice, fermented fruit and other creative libations.<\/p>\n<p>The winning cocktail artist gets bragging rights, as well as\u00a0the coveted Screamin\u2019 Pickle Award at a ceremony at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sbfermentationfestival.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Santa Barbara Fermentation Festival<\/a>,\u00a0and will also have his or her cocktail featured by<a href=\"http:\/\/www.goodlioncocktails.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Good Lion<\/a>\u00a0in the Farm-to-Bar Area of the festival.<\/p>\n<p>Ian Cutler, Cutler\u2019s Artisan Spirits owner and distiller, came up with the contest as a creative way to bring together local spirits created by fermented grains with local mixers also created by the process of fermentation. When he shared his idea with The Good Lion\u00a0proprietor Brandon Ristaino and Santa Barbara Fermentation Festival Co-Founder Katie Hershfelt, the trio decided they had to make it happen. \u201cWe couldn\u2019t be more excited to challenge our fellow cocktail enthusiasts and spread the wild world of fermentation to a wider audience,\u201d Hershfelt\u00a0says.<\/p>\n<p>Contestants can enter by contacting Cutler at info@cutlersartisan.com by Friday, September 4. Ten\u00a0slots are available on a first come, first served basis.<\/p>\n<p>Competition and judging by a panel of prominent industry experts will take place at The Good Lion\u00a0on Tuesday, September 8 [event is closed to the public].
