Courtesy American Federation of Arts.<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p1\">Taking place at the Museum on\u00a0<span class=\"s11\">Friday, February 27, from 5:30\u20137:30 p.m.,<\/span>\u00a0this evening celebrates what the organizers are calling, &#8220;the drama of the divine, the sensuality of the secular and the splendors of spring in a one-night pilgrimage through 500 years of Italian painting in the galleries.&#8221; The entertainment includes music and dance performances by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/pages\/Ciaramella-Ensemble-for-Music-of-the-15th-Century\/257657738872\">Ciaramella<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.heliosdancetheater.org\/\">Helios Dance Theater<\/a>, participatory fresco painting, an interactive installation\u2014From Mad Love to Bad Love\u2014inspired by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gutenberg.org\/files\/8800\/8800-h\/8800-h.htm\">Dante\u2019s <i>Divine Comedy<\/i><\/a>, and cocktails and <span class=\"s12\">hors d\u2019oeuvres inspired by the Italian greats.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p12\">Start out your evening with a visit to\u00a0<span style=\"line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\">Dante\u2019s\u00a0<\/span><i style=\"line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\">Purgatory,<\/i><span style=\"line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\">\u00a0a literary work that inspired a 1480 commission by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.palazzo-medici.it\/mediateca\/en\/Scheda_Lorenzo_il_Popolano\">Lorenzo di Pierfrancesco de\u2019 Medici<\/a> for a series of narrative paintings by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sandrobotticelli.net\/\">Sandro Botticelli<\/a>.T<\/span><span style=\"line-height: 1.6;\">he tiered terraces of purgatory look suspiciously like dessert at the From Mad Love to Bad Love station, so you\u00a0can have your cake and eat it too in this interactive, artist-designed installation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p13\">After your journey through purgatory, immerse yourself in large-scale works at the fresco painting interactive installation. Work with SBMA Teaching Artist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.kendallpata.com\/\">Kendall Pata<\/a> to create a communal fresco inspired by the exhibition and painted directly onto dry plaster panels.\u00a0Then tune in to the instrumental tapestry of Ciaramella, a wind ensemble dedicated to the music of the 15th century. The six-piece group\u2014whose name is from <span style=\"line-height: 20.7999992370605px;\">he Italian shawm (a double-reed instrument similar to the oboe) and a 15th-century story about a beautiful girl whose clothes are full of holes and \u201cknocks men flat\u201d when she opens her mouth<\/span>\u2014performs a blend of Renaissance polyphony and improvisation.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_39618\" style=\"width: 184px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-39618\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-39618 wp-caption alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/sbseasons.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/image004.jpg\" alt=\"Helios Dance Theater, courtesy SBMA\" width=\"174\" height=\"256\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-39618\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Helios Dance Theater, courtesy SBMA<\/p><\/div>\n<p class=\"p2\">Helios Dance Theater, led by critically-acclaimed choreographer and artistic director <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bodytraffic.com\/choreographers\/laura_miller.php\">Laura Gorenstein Miller<\/a>, returns to Santa Barbara\u00a0Museum of Art with a performance that mixes sensual abandon with fierce physicality. Praised by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/\"><i>Los Angeles Times<\/i> <\/a>as presenting a \u201csensual partnering of maneuvers constructed of both intimate gestures and acrobatic lifts,\u201d Helios performs at the intersection of period music and contemporary dance to deliver a visual exploration of the sacred and the sensory.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">Guests will also\u00a0enjoy a selection of baroque music curated for the occasion by composer, violist, baroque violinist, and 17th-century music specialist <a href=\"http:\/\/www.andrewnathanielmcintosh.com\/anmbio.html\">Andrew Mcintosh<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\">As you make your way through the ages, sip on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.brander.com\/\">Brander wine<\/a> and savor Italian-inspired <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wiktionary.org\/wiki\/piccolino#Italian\">piccolini<\/a> and small bites inspired by the flavors of Rome, Venice, and Florence, and prepared by Fire and Ice Events.
