Sullivan Goss \u2013 An American Gallery celebrates local poet and artist Barry Spacks.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Downtown\u00a01st\u00a0Thursday\u00a0<\/i><\/a>April 3\u00a0event includes more than two dozen cultural art venues, standing by with poetry, art, music and more, for National Poetry Month. Here are some of the highlights:<\/p>\n

Sullivan Goss \u2013 An American Gallery<\/a> (7 & 11 E. Anapamu St.) will celebrate the life and work of Barry Spacks<\/a>, Santa Barbara\u2019s first Poet Laureate and beloved artist. The Spacks\u2019 estate provided 108 works of art that will be offered at $108, a number that is sacred in the artist’s Buddhist religion. Special poetry readings will take place throughout a not-to-be-missed evening.<\/p>\n

Salt <\/a>(740 State St.) has \u201cPoetry in the Cave,\u201d for a fun-filled evening of words and community in their.pink Himalayan salt caves. For another spoken word experience, the Museum of Contemporary Art Santa Barbara <\/a>(653 Paseo Nuevo Terrace) is presenting a performance by Julia Landois and Erik Sanden<\/a>, Live Ballast <\/i>at\u00a07 p.m.<\/p>\n

Award-winning plein air artist Jason Sacran<\/a> is conducting a painting demonstration at Waterhouse Gallery<\/a> (1114 State St., #9) and over at The Book Den<\/a> (15 E. Anapamu St.),\u00a0\u00a0Eric Kelley is celebrating his 35th anniversary as the proprietor of California\u2019s oldest used bookstore (founded in 1902).<\/p>\n

Santa Barbara Historical Museum<\/a> (136 E. De la Guerra St.) opens a new exhibition, \u201cImpressions in Ink: Etchings from the Collection<\/a>,\u201dfeaturing artist Henry Chapman Ford. Learn how the Santa Barbara Art Foundry<\/a> makes unique bronze sculptures in a step-by- step process on Marshalls Patio (900 State St.).<\/p>\n

Join the Lobero Theatre<\/a> (33 E. Canon Perdido St.) from 7:30-9:30 p.m. for 1st Thursday: After Hours<\/a>. Don\u2019t miss une bonne soir\u00e9e <\/i>onstage: enjoy hors d\u2019eouvres from Sojourner Cafe<\/a>, wine from\u00a0Roblar Winery<\/a> and eclectic cabaret presented by Kerrilee Kaski<\/a>.<\/p>\n
