\"Mission_Blue.1\"<\/a>The 2014\u00a0Santa Barbara International Film Festival<\/a>\u00a0kicks off tonight with the world premiere of\u00a0Mission Blue<\/em>,<\/a>\u00a0a story of the ever-changing ocean, at\u00a0Arlington Theatre<\/a>\u00a0on Thursday, January 30 at 8 p.m.<\/p>\n

The documentary film highlights oceanographer, explorer, author and lecturer\u00a0Sylvia Earle\u2019s life\u2019s work and follows the\u00a0increasingly urgent international effort, coordinated by the National Geographic\u00a0Society, to build awareness about the state of our oceans.\u00a0Called \u201cHer Deepness\u201d by The New Yorker<\/em> and The New York Times<\/em>, and a \u201cLiving Legend\u201d by the Library of Congress, Earle has led more than 60 expeditions and logged more than 6,000 hours underwater.<\/p>\n

The film features\u00a0James Cameron<\/a>\u00a0and the late\u00a0Mike deGruy<\/a>. Both Earle and Stevens will be in attendance on opening night. Following the film, guests over 21 can attend a film-themed gala at\u00a0Paseo Nuevo<\/a>, including food, drinks, dancing, and entertainment.<\/p>\n
