By <a title=\"Leslie Dinaberg\" href=\"http:\/\/www.lesliedinaberg.com\" target=\"_blank\">Leslie Dinaberg<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As we like to say around here, when life gives you lemons &#8230; make <a title=\"Limoncello\" href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/templates\/story\/story.php?storyId=128800809\" target=\"_blank\">Limoncello<\/a>!<\/p>\n<p>An Italian lemon liqueur that is traditionally made from lemon zest steeped in grain alcohol (also known as the deadly <a title=\"Everclear\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Everclear_(alcohol)\" target=\"_blank\">Everclear<\/a> to those of you who went to college frat parties) until the sunny yellow oils are released, then mixed with a simple syrup to create a strong, sweet lemony <a title=\"digestif\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2012\/02\/26\/magazine\/digestifs.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\">digestif<\/a>, Limoncello is delicious all by itself on the rocks and\u2014as I recently discovered\u2014even more deletable when combined with Vodka to create a <a title=\"Limoncellotini\" href=\"http:\/\/www.stirrednotshaken.net\/liqueur-recipes\/73-limoncello-martini-recipe.htm\" target=\"_blank\">Limoncellotini<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Although widely available at our local bars and restaurants, I actually traveled to Portland (no, sadly not the Amalfi Coast) to try this refreshing summer sip at the wonderful <a title=\"a Cena Ristorante\" href=\"http:\/\/www.acenapdx.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">a Cena Ristorante<\/a> last week. Talk about a match made in heaven! The Limoncellotini (featuring the restaurant&#8217;s house-made Limoncello) paired delightfully well with the house-made Agnolotti pasta, featuring corn and mascarpone raviolini and butter-poached Maine lobster.<\/p>\n<p>My mouth waters just typing those words, that&#8217;s how good it was!<\/p>\n<p>Luckily for us, California lobster season is coming up soon, plus we also have the wonderful <a title=\"Ventura Limoncello Company\" href=\"http:\/\/www.venturalimoncello.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ventura Limoncello Company<\/a> right in our backyard, and plenty of convenient locations stock this regional delicacy, including <a title=\"The Biltmore Four Seasons Resort\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fourseasons.com\/santabarbara\/dining\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Biltmore Four Seasons Resort<\/a>, <a title=\"Crocodile Restaurant\" href=\"http:\/\/www.crocsb.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Crocodile Restaurant<\/a>, <a title=\"Maggie's at State &amp; A\" href=\"http:\/\/www.maggiesatstateanda.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maggie&#8217;s at State &amp; A<\/a>, <a title=\"Olio e Limone\" href=\"http:\/\/www.olioelimone.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Olio e Limone<\/a> Ristorante, <a title=\"TOMA\" href=\"http:\/\/tomarestaurant.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">TOMA<\/a> and <a title=\"Tydes Restaurant &amp; Bar at the Coral Casino\" href=\"http:\/\/www.fourseasons.com\/santabarbara\/dining\/restaurants\/tydes\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tydes Restaurant &amp; Bar at the Coral Casino<\/a>, among others.<\/p>\n<p>If you want to make your own Limoncellotini at home, recipes vary from the simple (combine one part Limoncello with two parts Vodka and shake) to extremely complicated variations involving flavored Vodkas, fresh juices, edible flowers and magic spells.
