This small-scale, realistic setting shows off easy-growing,\u00a0beautiful California native\u00a0trees, shrubs, and plants that are\u00a0drought-tolerant wildlife habitats.\u00a0An excellent selection of\u00a0natives is available for purchase\u00a0at the on-site Nursery, which\u00a0helps to support the work of this\u00a0valuable nonprofit.<br \/>\n1212 Mission Canyon Rd.<\/p>\n<p>CHUMASH INSPIRATION<br \/>\nThe Chumash Point Ethnobotanical Preserve on Santa Barbara City College\u2019s\u00a0East Campus (<a href=\"http:\/\/sbcc.edu\/environmentalhorticulture\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">sbcc.edu\/environmentalhorticulture<\/a>) is a practical lab for the school\u2019s<br \/>\nenvironmental horticulture students, as well as a great resource for locals to get a<br \/>\npeek at a garden that emphasizes native plants that have medicinal, nutritional, and<br \/>\nspiritual importance to the Chumash.\u00a0721 Cliff Dr.<\/p>\n<p>COMING UP ROSES<br \/>\nIf you\u2019re looking to create your own rose garden, the A.C. Postel Memorial Rose<br \/>\nGarden across from the Santa Barbara Mission is a wonderful source of inspiration.<br \/>\nMore than 1,500 rose plants in every possible hue are usually in bloom between April<br \/>\nand November, making these carefully tended flowerbeds a favorite spot for a stroll.<br \/>\n420 Plaza Rubio<\/p>\n<p>SUPERB\u00a0SUCCULENTS<br \/>\nThe 37 acres of horticultural wonders at\u00a0Lotusland (<a href=\"http:\/\/lotusland.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lotusland.org<\/a>) showcase a\u00a0number of rare species and exotic specimens,\u00a0including an impressive array of\u00a0drought-friendly plants in the succulent\u00a0garden. A sweeping collection of cacti\u00a0is also on display in another themed\u00a0area, along with the oft-photographed\u00a0euphorbia, cactus, and succulent plantings<br \/>\nin front of Ganna Walska\u2019s iconic\u00a0pink residence, designed with the help\u00a0of respected landscape architect Lockwood\u00a0de Forest.\u00a0Reservations required. Call (805) 969-9990.<\/p>\n<p>ORNAMENTAL EXCELLENCE<br \/>\nConsidered a true masterpiece of Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, Casa del\u00a0Herrero\u2019s grounds (<a href=\"http:\/\/casadelherrero.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">casadelherrero.com<\/a>) were designed in an eclectic mix of Moorish\u00a0style and Country Place Era by noted landscape architects Ralph Stevens, Lockwood\u00a0de Forest, and Francis T. Underhill.
