Getting back to nature in the 805\u00a0area recently got even easier with\u00a0the establishment of Harmon Canyon<\/a>\u00a0(venturalandtrust.org<\/a>), a new 2,100-plus-acre preserve owned by the
\nVentura Land Trust.<\/p>\n

\u201cHarmon Canyon\u00a0offers beautiful scenery, spectacular\u00a0views, and a trail system for both hiking\u00a0and biking found nowhere else,\u201d says\u00a0Ventura Land Trust executive director\u00a0Derek Poultney<\/a>. \u201cAnd it\u2019s available to\u00a0the public for free in Ventura.\u201d<\/p>\n

State grants combined with a generous\u00a0donation from the previous landowners\u00a0funded the purchase of the Walker-Hearne Ranch<\/a> for the preserve, which\u00a0features hills and canyons, oak groves,\u00a0streams, and vistas of the coastline and\u00a0Channel Islands National Park<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cCommunity contributions allow\u00a0the Ventura Land Trust to manage and\u00a0provide public access to the property,\u00a0restore wildlife habitat, and support\u00a0our popular environmental education\u00a0programs: Ventura Wild and Once\u00a0Upon a Watershed,\u201d says Poultney.<\/p>\n

Dogs on leashes are also welcome.<\/p>\n
