Necessity is certainly the mother of invention\u00a0these days, and performing arts organizations\u00a0are pivoting in creative ways to bring\u00a0entertainment directly to home audiences.<\/p>\n

\u201cMusic is the common denominator that\u00a0brings humans together, no matter the\u00a0time or the place in history,\u201d says New West\u00a0Symphony<\/strong><\/a> (newwestsymphony.org\/2020-<\/a>
\n21-virtual-season) CEO Natalia Staneva<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, Staneva and the symphony\u2019s\u00a0artistic and music director, Michael\u00a0Christie<\/a>, have developed Global Sounds,\u00a0eight mini music concerts and festivals\u00a0inspired by cultures from around the world\u00a0and presented virtually through June 2021.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe discovered that our community\u00a0contains a variety of cultures with vibrant\u00a0musical traditions that have inspired and\u00a0influenced classical music composers for\u00a0generations,\u201d says Christie. \u201cAnd thus was\u00a0born the concept of turning each concert\u00a0experience into a mini cultural festival.\u201d<\/p>\n

Along with the orchestra performing\u00a0symphonic works, each concert week will\u00a0feature in-depth interviews with cultural\u00a0experts and solo and ensemble performances\u00a0of orchestra members and guest artists. Visit\u00a0the website for tickets and more details.<\/p>\n

UCSB Arts & Lectures<\/strong> (artsandlectures.ucsb.edu<\/a>) brings cultural events home with\u00a0House Calls, an interactive, online series of\u00a0concerts, conversations, and question-and-answer\u00a0sessions with musicians like Danish\u00a0String Quartet<\/a> and Rhiannon Giddens<\/a> and\u00a0authors such as Anne Lamott<\/a> and Cheryl\u00a0Strayed<\/a>.<\/p>\n
