A global leader in technology intelligence, HG Insights<\/a> (formerly HG\u00a0Data) recently hit a benchmark that CEO Elizabeth Cholawsky<\/a> is\u00a0justifiably excited about.\u00a0\u201cWe just topped 100 employees, which is fantastic,\u201d she said. \u201cWe were\u00a0half that about when I got here two and a half years ago, and about three quarters\u00a0of those employees are in Santa Barbara.\u201d<\/p>\n

The former CEO of Support.com and a VP at Citrix Online, Cholawsky\u00a0jumped at the opportunity in 2018 to work at HG, which is known as a\u00a0\u201cdata as a service,\u201d or DaaS, company, in 2018. \u201cIt was way too good to\u00a0pass up, because the company is just a growing blockbuster,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u201cIt\u2019s really been fun.\u201d<\/p>\n

One of her first moves was purchasing Pivotal iQ, a London-based\u00a0partner that\u2019s now home to much of her sales team.\u00a0\u201cWhen we could travel, one of the things that I did was make sure\u00a0there was a lot of back and forth, so that we could cross-pollinate,\u201d\u00a0Cholawsky explained. \u201cPeople from Santa Barbara were thrilled to\u00a0go spend a week or two in London. And for the London team, we\u00a0keep one of the apartments at El Escorial, so we can house people\u00a0coming over. We really encourage that to keep the bicoastal thing\u00a0going. I do encourage my executive team to get out of what I call the\u00a0four walls of Santa Barbara and make sure you get that influence\u00a0from other things going on.\u201d<\/p>\n

She\u2019s never felt \u201ctoo disadvantaged\u201d as a woman in the traditionally\u00a0male-dominated tech industry, and she has seen increasing opportunities\u00a0open for women to progress within organizations. \u201cBut I don\u2019t think\u00a0Santa Barbara is immune from the problems, or from the progress that we\u2019re making,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

She\u2019s a fan of basing companies on the Central Coast, where the\u00a0culture centers on enjoying the outdoors and natural beauty. \u201cI\u2019m not\u00a0talking about taking time off to go surfing,\u201d she said. \u201cYou have more\u00a0time here. You don\u2019t have the congestion and the traffic problems. And\u00a0for your life, you just have more hours. That impacts the culture of companies\u00a0because the stress level goes down and people have both more\u00a0time to invest in themselves as well as in the company.\u201d<\/p>\n
