Stuck at home for the remainder of\u00a0his junior year at San Marcos High\u00a0School<\/a> in Santa Barbara due to the\u00a0pandemic, Daniel Goldberg<\/a> felt the\u00a0urge to help others in some way. He\u00a0texted a few friends about it, and\u00a0within a matter of days, Zoomers\u00a0to Boomers (zoomerstoboomers.com<\/a>), a free grocery delivery service\u00a0for the elderly, was born.<\/p>\n

Since early\u00a0March, the program has grown to\u00a0encompass 29 cities nationally and\u00a0an affiliate in India.<\/p>\n

\u201cWith the pandemic, I think\u00a0there is this universal feeling of\u00a0helplessness,\u201d says Goldberg, \u201cwhere\u00a0everyone is just trying to stay away\u00a0from people, and you feel like there\u2019s\u00a0nothing you can do. Just seeing\u00a0how many people are reaching out\u00a0and saying, \u2018I want to do something\u00a0similar [to Zoomers to Boomers],\u2019\u00a0has been a very welcome surprise.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jackie Kaplan, one of more\u00a0than 100 local volunteers, recently\u00a0finalized a partnership with The\u00a0Foodbank of Santa Barbara<\/a> to\u00a0deliver hot meals from Chef\u2019s\u00a0Kitchen to seniors, further\u00a0cementing Zoomers to Boomers\u00a0community collaborations.<\/p>\n
