But\u00a0stranger things are still on the way. Looking at our crystal ball to visualize the future,\u00a0here are some of the most captivating trends.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Bringing the Story of the Bottle to Life \u00a0<\/strong>As storytelling specialists, we\u2019re particularly\u00a0intrigued by the use of augmented reality and\u00a0artificial intelligence technology to cleverly connect\u00a0wine labels with wine lovers. More than 500\u00a0wineries around the world are using an app called\u00a0Winerytale, which connects drinkers to the stories\u00a0behind their bottle via smartphone.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wine Vending Machines \u00a0<\/strong>Alcohol vending machines are on the rise, especially\u00a0in bars. Now that wine in a can is so readily\u00a0available, why not pair the self-serve vending\u00a0machines with a biometric scanning device (like a retina scanner) that checks your ID and lets you\u00a0wave a smartphone to pay for your purchase.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Attack of the Drones\u00a0<\/strong>It\u2019s a multipronged attack of the drones, and\u00a0they\u2019re becoming less cost prohibitive all the time.\u00a0Wineries currently use them for beautiful aerial\u00a0photography and marketing purposes, security,\u00a0surveying and crop analysis, including what specialists\u00a0call \u201cvine vigor\u201d maps using multispectral\u00a0cameras. There are even drones that make hawk\u00a0squawk projections to scare the birds away from\u00a0eating the grapes. On the consumer side, drone\u00a0deliveries for wine are next on the horizon \u2014\u00a0Amazon Prime Air has 30 minutes or less service in\u00a0development already.<\/p>\n<p><strong>I Can\u2019t Believe I Drank the Whole Thing \u00a0<\/strong>Fully edible or compostable wine bottles already\u00a0exist, it\u2019s just a matter of time before they become\u00a0more practical and affordable. Edible bottles made\u00a0from isomalt (a sugar substitute) are available to\u00a0order in kits and compostable, nonelastic glass\u00a0made from cornstarch are also becoming a viable,\u00a0eco-friendly option.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Watch Out Jetsons \u00a0<\/strong>With artificial intelligence algorithms becoming\u00a0more and more, well \u2026 intelligent, perhaps it won\u2019t\u00a0be long until we\u2019re querying robot sommeliers to\u00a0help with food and wine pairings, then augmenting\u00a0our experience with holographic entertainment\u00a0from our favorite bands (dead or alive). While this\u00a0all sounds like a sci-fi movie, there is a new grocery\u00a0store point-of-sale product in development called\u00a0Tastry, which uses a blend of machine learning,\u00a0sensory science and chemistry to match your\u00a0wine flavor preferences to the bottles available for\u00a0purchase.
